NEW PRE- BOOK LAUNCH COURSE- Painting Birds, Expressive Watercolour Techniques 2023

Do you want to add dynamism and expressiveness to your paintings? Or would you simply love to paint the birds that visit your garden or that you see on holiday?

In anticipation to the publication of my forthcoming book, I have put together a 5 day course that gives you a practical “nuts and bolts” approach to creating beautiful watercolour paintings.

The course is limited to just 10 students and will give you the time, space and tuition to help you learn new techniques to discover your natural rhythm and flow and to paint beautifully expressive artwork. I’ve chosen birds as the subject as they present us with a whole array of delightful as well as challenging features which will put you in good stead to tackle other subjects once you’ve finished the course.

In terms of the programme content, once the basics of drawing, watercolour and colour mixing have been covered, you will learn additional techniques to depict some of the more challenging aspects of birds’ features such as luminosity, movement, markings and texture. You will be encouraged to develop your own style, colour palette and mark making techniques as well as being shown ways to paint environmental features such as foliage, trees and branches. By the end of the course you will have painted a whole series of birds from owls to hummingbirds, from kingfishers to puffins.

What better way to enjoy the warm Summer months than to be painting amongst the flora and fauna of this tranquil neck of the woods? No experience is necessary for the course and all materials will be provided.

For those of you wanting to bring a loved one with you, there is plenty to do in the area during the daytime hours including walking and bike trails, canoeing, kayaking, as well as visiting local places of interest such as the Severn Valley Railway, Arley Arboretum, the historic market towns of Bewdley and Bridgnorth and West Midlands Safari Park. Much of the local accommodation, pubs and shops are dog friendly.
